History

The 3rd Pass was punctuated by an overproduction of clutches; unable to keep up with the sheer amount of dragons being produced another Weyr; this one in a rather barren desert part of the Southern Continent was founded. This Weyr was known as Torval; and what started out as a place for them to dump their unwanted riders or extra clutches became an independent Weyr who were sick of being the lacky of the north. In a rash move just before the interval set in Torval cut all ties with the north. The interval went by; leadership changed many times and still Torval never reconnected with the north. For so long without the others it finally came to pass in their eyes that no other weyrs existed; they didn't know if the northern Weyrs were still around by the time the 4th Pass swung into view.

However the beginning of their 4th Pass was to look bleak; one queen remained. She was old and beyond her prime and her rider a woman who's health was beginning to fail. It did not help they were a set traditional Weyr; rank was everything and the only reason the old Weyrwoman was treated with respect was because of the colour dragon she rode. One last time her golden queen rose; one last time the woman bore the stress of a mating flight. She was not well after that mating flight; even as her great golden queen lay 23 beautiful eggs; a large clutch by her aging standards.

It seemed however this old queen was predicting the future as among her 23 eggs; two sitting side by side were great golden ones. New hope for the Weyr's future as if; she was assuring they had one; assuring that if one gold egg did not hatch there would be another to take it's place. It was a short sevenday after those eggs were lain that the Weyrwoman suffered a fatal heart attack; in her senile old age; the great queen betweened. Leaving her eggs vulnerable; leaving her eggs to be cared for by their old bronze father.

The Weyrleader was a stern man; a man of tradition and upholding of it. Five women would be allowed to stand; Five and no more. He did not need more female green riders and from Five he said the queens would have enough choice. So now the Weyr waits on baited breath for the hatching of these 23 eggs; especially the gold eggs. Will they both hatch or will Torval be doomed to fall into ruin...
