OVERALL APPEARANCE: Decklan is for the most part, horrible average. He isn't the most attractive nor the ugliest. His skin is a darker tan color thanks to his work outside. It is also quite rough on his hands thanks to his line of work. His chin is sharply angled and pointed with a wide jaw line. His nose is long, thin, and a bit hawk like. His hair is cut short with side burns, but when it does grow out some it tends to curl. He carries his head high without hesitation. His gait is almost as unique as his ears. Almost a swagger, but it couldn't even be called that. Whatever it should be called it makes Decklan stand out in a crowd.
TYPICAL ATTIRE: Loose, light clothing. He tends to shy away from gather finery, but will wear it if the need arises.

PERSONALITY STRENGTHS:

Patient - Decklan is a saint when it comes to patience and being patient. He can wait for the longest time for anything without little trouble. When situations are becoming seemingly difficult he has the will power to stay in control of himself.
Loyal - Decklan sticks through to the end. His friends are important to him and he would do anything for them, no matter what.
Open Minded - Decklan isn't no hide bound old timer, that's for sure. Though he doesn't oppose the old ways, he wouldn't object to there being a few new ideas introduced to the weyr.

PERSONALITY WEAKNESSES:

Proud - Decklan isn't the most arrogant person out there, but when he does accomplish something good he's not above telling others about it.
Selfish - Sharing comes as a difficult thing for Decklan. If he thinks of something as his he is unlikely to willing share it with somebody else.
Lazy - It takes a lot of motivation to get Decklan to do anything that would be considered work.

OVERALL PERSONALITY: Decklan would be considered an average teen age boy. He's selfish, a bit arrogant, and tends to be on the lazy side. The fact that he is an only child doesn't help with his selfish tendencies. It's not so much food and things of that nature that he is selfish about, it's more of personal items that he sees as his only that he does not share. Like a lot of young people, Decklan falls on the lazy side. If he absolutely does not have to do something he probably won't do it. Of course with the right motivation, or the right threatening punishment, he will do hard work.
Decklan is an open-minded individual. He doesn't believe that the old ways are always the best ways. This in a way, makes him an outcast amongst the older people. One situation in particular is women greenriders. He honestly doesn't see a problem with them and doesn't understand why everyone else does. Of course he also doesn't see woman as something akin to property either. He told his dad about his feeling on this subject and was promptly reprimanded for it. Since then he's learned to keep his open minded opinions to himself, but that doesn't mean he doesn't act on them on occasion.

PLACE OF RESIDENCE: A small fishing hold north of the weyr.
OVERALL HISTORY: Decklan was born in a small fishing hold north of Torval Weyr. Not a large place, but a decent enough place to live as a child. His father lived for the sea and was out on it more than he was at home. Decklan was the only child and his mother sheltered him from a lot of the harshness of the world. She didn't let him go off for long times by himself or do anything without her approval. Even though he had everything he could ever need he couldn't really say he enjoyed his life.

He loved his parents, but hated their overbearing nature and need to run every aspect of his life. Since he can remember, Decklan was told that he would take after his father in the fishing business. That some day he would join his dad out on the sea to fish for their livelihood. Decklan didn't want that. He saw how rough of a life a fishman had and honestly it didn't suit him at all. Of course he had no alternative to turn to anyways. At least he didn't think there was an alternative until one day a blue dragon happened to come to their small hold. The blue ended up being a search dragon and picked Decklan of all people as a suitable candidate. Decklan was thrilled, finally there was something that might be able to get him out of the fishing life. Now he is at Torval Weyr awaiting the last hatching of the old queen.
